WWNO/WRKF Education Reporter
WWNO New Orleans/WRKF Baton Rouge seeks an Education Reporter. Come live and work in one of the most culturally rich regions of the country.
The Education Reporter will tackle the education dynamics in New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana. This includes reporting developments for daily news, as well as larger trends, history, projections and context for feature stories and series. Research, cultivate sources, pitch, produce and upload stories for daily newscasts, as well as longer features. There is no shortage of stories - as ongoing developments in the New Orleans public education system are among the most active in the country. Reporter will also contribute toward digital presentation on WWNO and WRKF websites in addition to filing for newscast and features. Other focus areas as directed by News Director. The reporter is required to stay up-to-date on regional stories, as well as national stories that may be localized. Some general assignment reporting is required.
Reporter will also work with the News Director and other staff to plan long-term coverage for WWNO and WRKF, and be available to provide occasional fill-in hosting for programs and other reporters. Public appearances to represent WWNO/WRKF, on-air fundraising, and topical panel discussions are also part of the job!
The position would be based in New Orleans. Some regional travel is required.
Report daily spots and regular features on education in the greater New Orleans-Baton Rouge area
4-Year degree (journalism, communications desired)
2-5 years of broadcast journalism experience
Experience with Adobe Audition or other digital audio editing software.
Experience with digital news publishing; knowledge of broadcast audio board and demonstrated interviewing and news reporting and writing skills.
Ability to work on deadline.
Sense of humor and ability to roll with the punches.
