Job Description:

This position works alongside both the WHYY News weekend digital editors and Radio weekend radio reporters to perform and oversee acquisition, editing and production of online content in a timely manner. This position will coordinate in the creation of the WHYY News Home page, social media communications with the audience, and management of story flow throughout the day. Must be facile with both the technology of web production and radio production and must be able to work with technical staff to further develop the website as well as identify best practices and problem solve. This person will also produce the Monday morning news letter under the supervision of the weekend and digital news editor.




  • Produce and manage the WHYY News website

  • Edit reporter content for digital distribution

  • Acquire and redistribute third party partner content

  • Optimize content for user experience across digital platforms

  • Make editorial judgments while on shift

  • Create daily news letter

  • Come up to speed on the work flow changes when working during the week as this position could be called upon for special project work and/or vacation backfill.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable attendance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education:  Bachelors Degree in Journalism/Media preferred


Experience: Minimum 2 years web production with a news organization producing a daily website


Technical Skills: Proficient in computer production using Word Press software of a similar web production software, Google Docs, Photoshop, and Pro Tools or another audio/video editing program.  Must be proficient in social media including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
