Associate Producer, WETA Digital Media

Full-time, Regular, Exempt

Reports to: Senior Manager, Interactive


We’re looking for a multi-talented, flexible, and high-energy individual to develop and maintain content for WETA’s digital properties, helping advance WETA’s mission to provide locally-relevant content that educates and entertains. You’ll be pitching ideas, researching, writing, and putting your production skills to use by shooting/recording original video and audio. You’ll also help to produce original media for websites, streaming portals and possibly broadcast distribution. There will also be some administrative/operational support you will provide to the rest of our team.


In an average week, you can expect to:

  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions for new content strands highlighting interesting people and places in the Greater Washington, D.C. community.
  • Conduct research on story ideas, processes, and archival materials and write content pieces for our website and Boundary Stones blog.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the Digital Media team and local television producers on related interstitial and video/audio projects.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the WETA Digital Media team and complete special projects, or other duties as assigned.

What success looks like:

  • After 60 days, you’ll understand our workflows and style and feel like a member of our team.
  • After 120 days, you’ll be generating ideas for digital content and helping make that content come to life.
  • Your demonstrated passion and ability to seamlessly jump from project to project enables you to flourish and experiment. You have developed new skills and have earned the trust of WETA colleagues producing educational and entertaining locally-focused audio and visual content.

You should have:

  • College degree in English, history, journalism, digital media, or related field;
  • 1-2 years’ experience in video or audio production and editing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with social media sites, Drupal (or other CMS familiarity) and the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with copyright, libel and other standards relevant to content production.
