New Mexico

New Mexico PBS

KNME has produced several programs surrounding the dropout crisis in New Mexico, including Public Square program, New Mexico Speaks, and New Mexico in Focus, in connection with the topic.

New Mexico PBS cohosted a Title One Parent Engagement Conference this past February with the New Mexico PTA which brought together families with middle and high school students to learn about truancy, as well as discuss barriers to regular attendance and ways to keep students in school. They have also merged their American Graduate work with Mission: Graduate in a collective impact effort to achieve the goal of 60,000 new college degrees and certificates in Central New Mexico by 2020.  Working though two Mission: Graduate collaborative action networks, Bernalillo County Early Childhood Accountability Partnership (ECAP) and the High School Graduation Network they created the Attendance Initiative.  Using video spots both on KNME and other radio and TV stations along with billboards, bus shelters, bus panels Mission: Graduate spread the word that when it comes to the job of going to school, Every Day Matters. The Attendance team also created and distributed toolkits to principals, health care providers, parents and families and early childhood centers. During Attendance Awareness Month their social media campaign spread the message throughout the 4 counties of Central New Mexico.
