Nine Network of Public Media's American Graduate initiative launched in St. Louis in November 2011 with a teacher town hall moderated by the PBS NewsHour's Gwen Ifill. In 2014, Nine was named Executive Producer for American Graduate, and in that role, Nine is responsible for providing support, guidance and coaching to the 33 other public media stations across the country that are participating in the initiative. In addition to Nine’s national role, the station continues to work with more than 60 local community partners to guide and inform our local efforts to improve educational outcomes for young people throughout the region. These community partners, along with Nine’s American Graduate Steering Committee, guide the development of the vision, goals, and structure for our collective work on American Graduate, which spans the pre-K to career continuum, through their participation in community conversations, education-related events, and regular communication with Nine staff. Input from these groups is also used to inform our content on air and online.
