March Station Highlights: LPB, WGBY, UEN
With stations maintaining work in communities across the country, the American Graduate initiative overall received a great honor this past month with an Honorable Mention at this year’s PR News Nonprofit PR Awards for its success in branding/re-branding for public media. The awards honor the best practices and most innovative initiatives in the nonprofit communications arena.
Congratulations to all of our stations and partners involved in our work.
See what else has been happening in communities across the country.
- In March, LPB posted a picture to Facebook of graduating seniors walking the halls of an elementary school and getting cheers and high-fives from the younger students. This photo made such an impression in the community that it had over three million views, over 22,000 reactions, and over 22,000 shares. This post not only got people excited about graduation, but also provides a great visual of the cradle-to-career pipeline that impacts student success!
- In an effort to help young people visualize academic success, UEN offers “What’s Your Story?” workshops to students in 7th- through 12th-grade. These workshops invite students to use a popular storytelling structure to consider how obstacles to reaching education goals can be framed as tragic endings or challenges that the hero of an adventure story can overcome. To date, almost 200 young people have participated in the activity.
- WGBY recently produced a compilation of their American Graduate content for an episode of “Connecting Point,” a series that focuses on timely local issues.
