January is National Mentoring Month

Posted by Aja Williams on

This January marks the 15th year for National Mentoring Month, and American Graduate has partnered with MENTOR to celebrate these American Graduate champions everywhere.

According to MENTOR, there are 9 million kids in America who will grow up without a mentor. Further, young people with mentors are 55 percent more likely to enroll in college and 52 percent less likely to skip a day of school.

American Graduate, which is public media’s long-term commitment to supporting community-based solutions to help keep youth on the track to a high school diploma and beyond, will showcase stories of mentors, who will call American Graduate Champions, throughout the month.

(You can see some of those stories on our Mentoring page.)

In addition, if you’re interested in becoming a mentor or finding local organizations near you, we have a searchable database – in partnership with MENTOR and WNET – that will allow you to search for opportunities near you.
