WORLD Channel's "Local USA" American Graduate segment wins Telly Awards

Local, USA, an original series from the WORLD Channel, won silver and bronze Telly Awards for an episode of short films titled, “American Graduate: Stories from The Classroom.” The episode was chosen from 13,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries.
Three short documentaries, created by emerging Latino filmmakers, make up the episode and tells the stories of graduating high school seniors who become first-generation college students.
The episode addresses a range of issues, including discrimination, poverty, homelessness, and lack of educational support among minority students. Their stories are told through animated 3D figures, in “The Smallest Step” by William Caballero, through documenting the lives of two teenagers in “Overcomers” by Gabriela Lopez de Dennis, as well as by taking at a look an all-girls Catholic high school in “Every Girl Matters” by Gloria Moran.
The episode was honored by the Telly Awards for its use of creativity, skill, and it serving as a testament to great film and video production.
The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films.
