East Side HouseEast Side House is a community-based organization in the South Bronx. We work with schools, community centers and other partners to bring quality education and resources to residents of the South Bronx and surrounding communities.

Recognizing education as the key to economic and civic opportunity, we help approximately 8,000 individuals improve their lives each year with programs ranging from basic literacy to specialized technology training.

East Side House Settlement, in partnership with United Way of New York City, is proud to launch our Campaign for Grade-Level Reading to help more students in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx read proficiently by grade three. Currently in Mott Haven, 90% of third graders fail to reach grade level reading proficiency. The Campaign will work to improve these numbers by helping prepare children for school, improving student attendance, and providing summer and extended learning opportunities. Building on our early education initiative S.T.E.P.S (Supporting Transitions for Early Childhood to Public School), where we worked with families to support their children’s transition into school, The Campaign will also support and engage educators and families to help our children succeed in school and break the cycle of poverty.
